Luminous Witches Previews Opening in 4th Trailer

The Luminous Witches anime has released its fourth trailer, which previews more footage of the cast, the opening song “WONDERFUL WORLD” by the Luminous Witches units, and a CG flying sequence. The show is set to premiere on July 3 in Japan.

Luminous Witches is set in the same universe as Strike Witches and is part of the World Witches multimedia project. The anime was announced in 2018 and was originally meant to release in 2021. It follows a group of Witches who do not fight, but instead use song and music to “protect everyone’s smiles.” The main character is the mysterious Virginia “Genie” Robertson, who possesses the traits of a Night Witch.

The main staff of the show includes Shouji Saeki (Assault Lily BOUQUET) as director and series composer, Kana Shundou (Princess Connect! Re: Dive, Assault Lily BOUQUET imageboarder) as assistant director, Fumikane Shimada (Strike Witches) as original character designer, and Kazuya Shiotsuki (Assault Lily BOUQUET sub-character designer and co-animation director) as character designer.

Other staff include Mina Ootaka (Sword Art Online Alicization – War of Underworld animation director) as familiar designer, Jin Hibino (Assault Lily BOUQUET, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Season 2 -The Eve of Awakening-) as color designer, Rei Egami (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Season 2 -The Eve of Awakening-) as photography director, and Gou Wakabayashi (So I’m a Spider, So What?) as music producer. SHIFT is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Mai Narumi as Virginia Robertson, Minako Hosokawa as Inori Shibuya, Ami Aimoto as Lyudmila Andreyevna Ruslanova, Ryou Mamiya as Aila Päivikki Linnamaa, Tsuzuki Sayaka as léonore Giovanna Gassion, Kana Konaka as Mary Magdalene Dietrich, Misaki Yuuki as Manaia Matawhaura Hato, Rino Yoshikita as Sylvie Cariello, and Rio Mamasaki as Joanna Elizabeth Stafford.

The roles of Sylvie and Joanna were originally filled by Miu Kotosaka and Kyou Tachibana respectively. Kotosaka retired in September due to health reasons, while Tachibana announced in October that she was retiring from the role to focus on her studies. The Luminous Witches idol unit, which is composed of the anime’s main cast, was formed in 2019.
